Synopsis
After having faithfully led the Israelites, and renewing the covenant with them, Joshua passes away. And he has led a good life, too—he is a hundred and ten years old, when he dies! The Israelites bury him in his inherited section of the land, and, while they’re at it, they also bury Joseph. Also, just to round things out, Eleazar also dies in this chapter, and is buried.
Thoughts
This is a very short passage, but there is one one particular verse which nicely sums up Joshua’s leadership:Israel served the LORD throughout the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had experienced everything the LORD had done for Israel. (verse 31)If I had been the leader of Israel, I can’t think if a better way to sum up my life: If the people under my leadership had “served the LORD.”
